“Expansion”

Concept

““Expansion” is an amalgamation of Hang Seng’s rich history, from its origins as a gold-trading business in the early 1930’s to its current stance as one of the world’s largest banks. The image incorporates elements such as the interior and exterior of Hang Seng’s Yinhao shop in Sheung Wan (as well as one of its employees using the scale), the building of Hang Seng School of Commerce in the 1960’s, the company’s entrance onto the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in the 1970’s, its current Headquarters in Central and its mobile branches around the city. Additionally, the composition of the image is meant to symbolize Hang Seng’s continuous expansion (“Hang Seng” = “ever-growing”), extending out in all directions from its centre. Here, we find that the subjects form a large but subtle “3”, a lucky number that hearkens back to the bank’s founding on March 3, 1933 (3/3/33).” “- Andreas von Buddenbrock
