    About

    Hang Seng’s Management Trainee Programme offers a holistic development approach,  centred around 2 key dimensions, Enterprise and Professional. At the enterprise level, aspiring leaders are immersed in our purpose, values and strategies in fintech and Greater Bay Area business as well as Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives. The professional level focuses on 8 business and function streams. You'll build your core banking knowledge and specialist skills in an inclusive environment and equip yourself with future skills, designed and offered through our expansive and agile learning environment, customised to enhance your development and growth.

    The first 24 months of the programme will be about maximising your exposure in order to gain the essential work-related knowledge and skills through rotations across core departments. You'll acquire valuable experience by participating in bank-wide projects and working in cross-functional teams. You'll then leverage your core department rotations and choose a placement area which usually lasts up to 12 months, starting the development of your career in the selected area of expertise. The opportunities don't end here – when you have graduated from the Management Trainee Programme, you'll be offered opportunities in Hang Seng to further progress and grow your career, preparing you to become one of our future leaders.

    Development offering

    At Hang Seng, we offer our Management Trainees a diverse and comprehensive learning curriculum in business, digital and data, technical learning, risk management, compliance and personal leadership development. The curriculum is designed to equip you with the key knowledge needed to perform at your best. You can also curate your own learning journey, with contents aligned to your development needs.

    We harness technology to provide an expansive and agile learning platform, tailoring the learning process to your specific needs. We adopt a hybrid approach with interactive virtual learning including the use of virtual reality technology and mobile apps gamified learning, combined with face-to-face classroom training.

    One of the most important elements of our development offering is to enable you to future-proof yourself. We offer an agile learning environment for the development of future skills, allowing you to adapt to a fast-changing business, social and technology landscape. Our Future Skills includes Growth Mindset, Creativity, Connectivity and Social Intelligence, Change and Transformation.

    You'll gain Future Skills through diverse learning activities, including active engagement with best-in-class enterprises and our strategic partners, and practice action learning in bank projects and dialogues with change leaders, as well as by job shadowing enterprise leaders and board members.

    Fintech is shaping the future of banking. You'll be well-equipped to navigate the latest fintech developments through rotations in related fintech areas, such as digital banking, innovation, data analytics and strategy, as well as Regtech. This part of your rotation will not be limited to our bank’s environment; there will be plenty of exciting opportunities to visit and engage with top-notch fintech  organisations and local startups, allowing you to stay updated on the latest fintech development, and inspiring you to contribute and help the bank consolidate its position as Hong Kong’s leading digital bank.

    Plenty of opportunities will be offered for you to participate in projects helping Hong Kong companies establish themselves and capitalise on cross-boundary business opportunities in mainland China and the Greater Bay Area. Your exposure will be increased by having attachment to our mainland branches and offices, gaining a better understanding of the financial market in China, local compliance and regulatory requirement, and so on.

    To facilitate your own network building, you'll be offered opportunities to take part in various external workshops and conferences, enabling you to learn from thought leaders and other professionals, ensuring you are up to date on best practices within our industry.

    During each of your attachment, you'll be assigned a mentor who will provide you guidance and coaching. You'll also be assigned a Management Trainee buddy from the same programme stream for additional support.

    We will help you attain professional qualifications as required in your chosen business/function stream. Such qualifications may include:

    As a Management Trainee, You'll have many opportunities to represent Hang Seng Bank at business events and corporate social responsibility functions, as well as participate in various internal staff activities, offering you the chance to polish your interpersonal and communication skills while building new relationships both within and outside of Hang Seng.

    Requirements

    We are looking for the following attributes and qualifications in candidates joining our MT Programme:

    • Growth Mindset - Having the mindset of things can be improved through effort, learning, and persistence. Positive to challenges, adapt and evolve from failures;
    • Communicating with Impact - Communicating ideas confidently and competently in both written and verbal format. Adopt and adjust the approaches for different audience and purpose;
    • Management Skills - Competencies to better lead, motivate, organize, schedule, plan, budget, and problem-solve;
    • Exhibit integrity, empathetic and inclusive behaviours, acting with shared purpose, speaking up taking accountability and setting high standards;
    • Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese proficiency;
    • Bachelor’s degree (Second Honours) or above; with no more than 3 years of work experience;
    • Permanent resident of Hong Kong or holder of a valid Hong Kong work visa e.g IANG / Top Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS)

    MT Finoland is a market leading initiative enabling us to make use of the metaverse to promote ourself and the Management Trainee Programme to university students. MT Finoland enables students to virtually get a taste of what it's to be like to be as a Hang Seng MT, highlighting the diverse training and career development opportunities, across different departments and functions.     Management Trainee Programme Frequently asked questions

    Only applications submitted through our online application platform will be processed. Your application will require you to provide the following: personal information, e-mail address, education history (including tertiary and secondary education and academic qualifications attained at secondary and tertiary levels, i.e. transcripts, public examination results), professional qualifications attained, details of extracurricular activities, work experience and language proficiency examination results.
