What's Studysure Protection Plan?

This overseas study insurance plan provides multiple protections for students studying abroad, including medical coverage and study interruption coverage. Based on students' different needs, you can select Essential Plan or Supreme Plan.

Key features

During the study trip:

Covers the medical expenses from bodily injury or sickness. The plan includes:

  • maximum 25 outpatient visits per policy year
  • Chubb Assistance: 24-hour emergency medical evacuation and repatriation services

Within 90 days after returning to Hong Kong SAR:

Offers up to HKD100,000 follow-up medical treatment coverage, in case the student needs additional treatments on the same bodily injury or sickness during the study trip

Offers coverage in case the student unfortunately passes away or suffers injuries within 12 months from accidents during the study trip, e.g. permanent total disability, loss of limb(s), loss of sight, and loss of hearing or speech

Extended coverage for:

  • Accidents while travelling on a public conveyance
  • Accidents while staying in a premises of an overseas studying institution

In case the student's study trip is interrupted due to serious bodily injury or serious sickness, the plan will cover:

  • tuition fee for retaking the courses after recovery; or
  • the forfeited tuition if the student is unable to continue the study trip

The study interruption must be due to:

  • hospital confinement; and
  • temporary disability for more than 30 days; and
  • need continuous medical treatment and supervision from a physician

Provides a subsidy to the student if the named parent/guardian accidentally passes away or is totally and permanently disabled due to bodily Injury within 12 months from the date of accident

Reimburses the cost of replacing passport, identity card or visa if the student loses any of them due to robbery, theft or burglary during the study trip

Please note, the student needs to report the loss to the local police within 24 hours of incident and get an official written report

Covers the student's trauma counselling expenses incurred within 90 days of the incident and upon physicians' advice, if he/she unfortunately becomes a victim of a traumatic event and sustains bodily injury during the study trip

    His parents have applied the "Studysure Protection Plan" - Supreme Plan for him

  2. After the accident

    • His parent called Chubb Assistance Hotline to get an initial medical opinion
    • He received local medical treatment - as the injury was rather severe, he was hospitalised for over 30 days for medical treatment and observation
    • His father visited him and stayed for 5 days
  3. How can this plan help?

    Upon successful claims, this plan will offer these coverages:

    • Medical expenses: Covers the necessary medical treatment and hospitalisation expenses in Australia
    • Compassionate visit: Covers the flight ticket and accommodation expenses of Mr. Chan's father
    • Study interruption: Covers tuition fee for retaking the courses after recovery

When Helen was studying abroad, her mother passed away in an accident

    Upon successful claims, this plan will offer this benefit:

    • Education fund: A subsidy for her to complete continue the overseas education

Tim's dormitory was damaged by a hurricane when studying in the United States

    He has applied for the "Studysure Protection Plan"

  2. During the study trip

    • A severe hurricane completely damaged Tim's dormitory
    • He needed to find temporary accommodation while it gets fixed during the semester

    Upon successful claims, this plan will offer this benefit:

    • Temporary accommodation benefit: Covers the cost of temporary accommodation and other reasonable additional expenses

Eligibility

To enroll as an insured student, you must be:

  • a legal Hong Kong SAR resident; and
  • aged between 10 to 30; and
  • register as a student of an accredited educational institution located outside Hong Kong SAR

To enroll as an insured parents/guardian, you must be:

  • a legal Hong Kong SAR resident; and aged between 18 to 74

Popular questions

Yes, Studysure policy must be enrolled in Hong Kong, and the policy effective date must be on or before the departure date of the study trip.

Studysure Protection Plan is applicable to all legal Hong Kong SAR residents aged between 10-30 for the insured student and aged 18-74 for the insured parent / guardian. Furthermore, an insured student should register as a student of an accredited educational institution located outside Hong Kong SAR.

Yes, our plan will cover a co-op student's study period and work period as long as he/she is from an accredited educational institution outside Hong Kong SAR. However, if the student is performing the duty of or being employed under a hazardous occupation, our plan won't cover his/her work period. 

Regardless of whether the hazardous occupation is assigned or arranged by the overseas studying institution or not.

 

Hazardous occupation means the job title or nature is aircrew, fisherman, armed occupation (including temporarily armed occupation), jockey, fire fighter, mining worker (including but not limited to coal, zinc, diamond and gold), atomic/nuclear energy related risk, quarrying worker, race track worker, butcher/slaughterer with usage of heavy machine, railway installation and maintenance worker, chemical product manufacturing worker, scaffolder, construction worker, ship crew (except those working at pier only), container terminal crane operator, steeplejack, petroleum and coal products (refining gas, asphalt and lubricating oils), steel manufacturing worker, oil and gas rig worker, professional diver, gondola worker, dock worker, stunt person, explosives (use and manufacturing), aerial photography and excavation (including drilling).

The student will be covered by this plan if employed or participated in clerical work. However, any form of manual work will not be covered by this plan, unless he/ she is participating in a placement or work programme assigned and arranged by the overseas studying institution. All non-clerical work will be classified as manual work.

Yes, even if the student travels outside his/her place of study, Studysure Protection Plan will provide coverages.

No. We don't accept application for the purpose of emigration. Also, the policy will become invalid once you or family member move to another country or region.

The coverage of these two insurance products is different. Studysure Protection Plan is an insurance product specially designed for people who are going to study abroad, which provides multiple coverages, such as medical expenses, personal accident and personal property.The student should consider insurance plan suitable based on his / her own insurance need.

  1. The above general insurance plan ("this Plan") is underwritten by Chubb Insurance Hong Kong Limited (“Chubb”) which is authorised and regulated in Hong Kong SAR by the Insurance Authority. Chubb reserves the right of final approval of the policy issuance. Hang Seng Bank Limited ("Hang Seng Bank") is registered as an insurance agency by the Insurance Authority (License No.: FA3168) and authorised by Chubb for distribution of this Plan. This Plan is a product of Chubb and not Hang Seng Bank. Upon application to this Plan, insurance premium will be payable to Chubb, and Chubb will provide Hang Seng Bank with commission and performance bonus as remuneration for distribution of this Plan.
