US Securities Services

Risk Disclosure of US Securities Services:

Investments involve risks. The prices of securities fluctuate, sometimes dramatically. The price of a security may move up or down, and may become valueless. It is as likely that losses will be incurred rather than profit made as a result of buying and selling securities. Foreign securities carry additional risks not generally associated with securities in the domestic market. The value or income (if any) of foreign securities may be more volatile and could be adversely affected by changes in many factors. Investors should read in detail the relevant Risk Disclosure Statements before making any investment decision. Client assets received or held by the licensed or registered person outside Hong Kong are subject to the applicable laws and regulations of the relevant overseas jurisdiction which may be different from the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap.571) and the rules made thereunder. Consequently, such client assets may not enjoy the same protection as that conferred on client assets received or held in Hong Kong.

Foreign Exchange involves Exchange Rate Risk. Fluctuations in the exchange rate of a foreign currency may result in gains or losses in the event that the customer converts HKD to foreign currency or vice versa.

  6. US securities trading – market-side late settlement risk.  Under the US securities market infrastructure and operational arrangement in relation to trade settlement, in cases where the market-side settlement hasn’t been completed by the original settlement date due to the relevant exchange participant(s) not having sufficient securities holding for delivery at the relevant time, there may be delay in the market-side settlement. In such circumstances, you may not be able to transfer out the relevant US securities to another custodian.  However, this shouldn’t affect you if you wish to place a sell order after the buy trade is recorded as executed at the relevant exchange while pending market-side settlement.

Notice: Starting from 28 May 2024, the settlement cycle for applicable US securities transactions will be shortened from 2 business days after order execution day (T+2) to 1 business day after order execution day (T+1). Investments involve risks.
